The following description comes from the event organizer.

From the seminal anthology "Aiiieeeee!" and Carlos Bulosan's "America Is in the Heart" to Willyce Kim's "Dancer Dawkins and the California Kid," join us for a celebration of the UW Press' contributions to Asian American literature in bringing classic works back into print and championing new writing.

Hosted by Shawn Wong, the celebration will include a reading from Willyce Kim, generally recognized to be the first openly lesbian Asian American poet to be published in the United States and the author of “Dancer Dawkins and the California Kid,” originally published in 1985 and reissued last year by the University of Washington Press, called a “much-needed queer classic” by Alexander Chee. Other featured writers include Yanyi, the author of Dream of the Divided Field and The Year of Blue Water, winner of the 2018 Yale Series of Younger Poets Prize; and Ching-In Chen, a genderqueer Chinese American author of “The Heart's Traffic: a novel in poems and recombinant,” a 2018 Lambda Literary Award for Transgender Poetry award winner. Eunsong Kim, the associate professor at Northeastern University and the author of “gospel of regicide” will moderate the Q&A. Registration is not required.
