The following description comes from the event organizer.
About: Dance, celebrate, and enjoy Sephardi music, beverages and food at Portland's first-ever Mimouna-themed takeover experience! Mimouna celebrates the Sephardi traditions & rituals of prosperity, springtime, good fortune and new beginnings. We open our ‘home’ and invite you to celebrate community, dance together, and connect in a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere! All are welcome!Music: fCD (Barak Kemeny) will spin Mizrahi-Electronica, World-Funk, Disco deep-cuts , Baltic Groove and House from the Middle East, Mediterranean, North Africa & Elsewhere…and more. Your boogie operator, fCD, will mix traditional beats with modern electronic sounds, creating lush, rhythmic and melodic grooves that transcends boundaries.
During the 2010's, fCD became renowned for energetic sets and made partygoers dance in the sweaty warehouse scene of Brooklyn. fCD shared the stage with Junior Marvin & the Wailers, Modern English, Fujiya & Miyagi & Mattie Saifer (The Rapture). Featured in Willamette Weeks’ Top 5’ Buzz List, VICE, The New Yorker, The Deli Magazine and Bushwick Daily.
Themes and Party Attire/Party Objects:
Themes: Symbols of luck and fertility, the number "5” and gold, like 5 gold pieces, greenery for spring. The repetition of the number five references the five-fingered hamsa amulet common in both Jewish and Muslim communities. Images of fish, symbolizing birth and fertility. Flowers, wheat stalks and leaves for spring!
Party Attire/Objects: Festive spring themed attire is highly encouraged! Think Hamsas, five pieces of gold jewelry, flowers, wheat stalks, and fish or wear your interpretation of bright spring clothing and bring/wear objects that create light! Floral prints, Sequins, Adhesive Face Jewelry, Glow Sticks, Bike Lights, EL Wire [Electro Luminescent] Disco Lights...anything that lights up the dance floor! And don’t forget to bring your dance moves & good vibes!
