Merchant's Cafe
While it's meat-markety during party hours and the food's nothing to write home about, Merchant's Cafe's mostly original 1890 saloon interior is shabbily marvelous—the pressed tin ceiling, the 30-foot bar, the antique safe that drunken miners used for their Klondike gold. In a better world, a good chef and a team of ace bartenders would reclaim this place from the tourists and d-bags; in this world, you can still go on a quiet afternoon and raise a whiskey, neat, to the past.
