The following description comes from the event organizer.

This is more than a Play, but a community healing experiment in the Central Eastside of Portland, OR.

Through six public performances of the play Alabaster, combined with a large community painting party for all ages, and two expressive art therapy workshops; the community is offered to learn practices of healing through art-making.

The project asks what does it mean to be truly "seen?" How does art help us heal from trauma?

The play begins after a tornado barrels through a town leaving nothing but death and destruction, only June and her pet goats Weezy and Bib live to tell the tale. Isn’t it the human expirence to have uncontrolloable moments barrel through our lives? But must those moments define us? Or can there be another way? Maybe through art?

May 19th, 1pm-3pm, Community Painting Party for All Ages is FREE, in partnership with Buckman Elementary School on Buckman’s upper playground, 320 SE 16th Ave, Portland, OR 97214.
