PRESS RELEASE:Federal Way 2nd-Annual "Arts Explosion" Arts Festival:
The Federal Way Arts Commission and the Kiwanis Foundation of Federal Way will bring to Federal Way the 2nd-Annual "Arts Explosion" Arts Festival at our Performing Arts and Event Center May 28th - June 3rd, 2024. This juried arts festival is currently accepting artworks (deadline March 20th, 2024). The adult artists are grouped into three categories: 1. photography and digital artwork; 2. two-dimensional artwork to include paintings, tapestries; and 3. three-dimensional artwork to include sculpture, jewelry, stained glass, wearable art and body art. We will also have the youth artists join us this year from the Federal Way Public Schools. They will be entering their self-portraits.
All art will be for sale during the show and will be judged with monetary prizes awarded. A partial list of judges include barry johnson, an award-winning professional artist featured at Winston Wächter Fine Art Seattle and the Seattle Art Show, Daniel Hershman, a world-renowned photographer and retired teacher of photography with the Federal Way Public Schools, and Gerardo Pena, a renowned Latino muralist from Tacoma and a graduate of the Federal Way Public Schools.
All sponsors are encouraged to attend the judging day and have their "Vernissage" (or first viewing) to see & buy art that speaks to them on Thursday May 30th. Sponsors, artists, judges and City dignitaries will enjoy an invitation-only awards ceremony Friday evening, May 30th. The public will have three free full days of viewing and buying of art May 30th - June 2nd, 2024. All attendees to our festival will be able to decide for themselves which artists are the best with the "People's Choice" award. Families are encouraged to attend the Festival Day, Saturday, June 1st, which will have musical interludes, a children's art corner and a food truck. Everyone is encouraged to purchase art and take them home on June 3, 2024.
We are happy to feature artworks from throughout the west; Washington, Oregon, and California. Sponsors for this art festival include the City of Federal Way, El Centro de la Raza, Jurassic Ink Tattoo Studios, Caffe' D'Arte', Lakehaven Water & Sewer, Arts Foundation Federal Way, Rotary, and Marigold Dental. The artwork, musical acts and sponsorships showcase the diversity that is Federal Way.
