The following description comes from the event organizer.

Get ready for an exhilarating challenge at the Beat the Bridge event! Imagine an 8K run over Seattle's University Bridge, but here's the twist – the bridge gets raised partway through the race. If you can run fast enough, you'll beat the bridge in this thrilling race against time. Don't worry if you don't make it; join your fellow participants, enjoy a live band, and have a chance to win exciting prizes. And it's not just for runners – there's a 3-mile walk, a 1-mile fun run, a wheelchair race, and even a Diaper Derby for toddlers. Yes, you read that right! Beyond the excitement, Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes is a fundraiser for JDRF, supporting type 1 diabetes research globally. The course's highlight is the University Bridge, and participants aim to cross it before it's raised. For 41 years, the Seattle community, with Nordstrom and the Boyle Family, has united to raise funds for JDRF. Join this tradition on May 19, 2024, for the 42nd Annual Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes, presented by Nordstrom and the Boyle Family – it's not just a race; it's a celebration of determination, community spirit, and making a positive impact on the fight against diabetes. Lace up those running shoes and be part of something extraordinary!
